Go Green this St. Patrick’s Day

Here are 5 ways you can reduce energy consumption and keep energy efficiency top of mind to save a pot of gold!

Let the Sun in

Take advantage of the sunlight! Warm weather and increased sunshine mean you can finally open the curtains, use the sun to light, and heat your home, reducing the need for artificial lighting and heating. An effortless way you can reduce energy consumption and save on your bill over time.

As an added bonus, increasing the amount of sunlight can help boost your mood and productivity!

    Switch to LED bulbs

Consider your Lighting - Use natural light when possible. Switch all lighting in your house to LED bulbs. LEDs use 70 to 90 per cent less electricity than traditional bulbs and last up to 3.5 times longer. If you plan to purchase decorative lights to help you celebrate search for battery operated light strips that have a programable timer. Be sure to turn off lights when not in use.

      Upgrading Appliances

If you are shopping for new appliances this season, keep energy efficiency in mind. Look for EnerGuide labels and ENERGY STAR® labels. The EnerGuide label means a product has been tested and meets or exceeds minimum energy performance standards set by Canada’s Energy Efficiency Regulations.

Organize a Themed Community Clean Up

Going green does not stop at energy conservation! Waste pollution is one of the biggest issues facing our lakes, parks, and communities nationwide. Gather a group of friends, dress up for St. Patrick’s Day and spend some time outside with a community clean up.

If you are interested in participating in a community clean up, consider taking part in the Town of Innisfil’s Pitch-In Day. Visit Pitch-In Day - Town of Innisfil for more info on the upcoming Pitch-In Day 2023.

Plan a Leprechaun Hunt (Scavenger Hunt)

Unplug for a few hours and spend time with your friends or family by hosting a Leprechaun Scavenger hunt! Create themed hints that lead to a pot of gold, a creative way to have fun without energy using activities (such as watching TV or playing video games).
