A power outage can occur due to multiple reasons. Adverse weather, animal contact, tree branches, motor vehicle accidents, defective equipment and digging without locates are a few examples.

A momentary outage is defined as a brief power interruption lasting one minute or less. While these types of outages are inconvenient, the automated equipment on the InnPower distribution system helps prevent sustained outages.

A sustained outage is defined as a power outage that lasts longer than one minute. During these types of outages, InnPower staff will be dispatched immediately to restore power as soon as possible.

Please remember that during an outage, our phone lines become very busy. This can make it difficult for our staff to take all incoming calls and for all calls to get through. We ask that before reporting an outage, customers first check our Outage map which provides up to date information on outages within our service territory.

Every outage is treated as an emergency. Our staff start working right away to restore power as quickly as possible. During multiple outages, usually caused by storms, public safety is our first priority (i.e. clearing live wires from roads). Our electrical distribution system stretches 100's of kilometers. Our crews may not be visible on your street even thought they are working on an outage that impacts you.

Our Outage Map provides up to date information on outages within our service territory. If you are able to access the internet through a wireless device, or if you are located in an area unaffected by an outage, you can visit this retrieve information about outages.

Outages will appear on the map with a red pin. When you click the red pin, a bubble with the impacted area will display known information about the outage including the start time, number of customers affected, caused, and estimated restoration time. When the power has been restored, the red pin will change to green. 

While some information is processed automatically into the outage map, some information has to be entered manually. The map may not reflect the on-going outages or be exact to your location outside of business hours. We can assure that our crews are working diligently to restore power as soon as it is reported.

Turn off or disconnect all major appliances.

Check to see if your meter is blank or if it is showing numbers. If the meter is showing numbers that means that there is power to the meter and the problem is likely an internal issue.

Check the circuit breakers or fuse box. If the breakers have tripped off or fuses have blown, reset the breaker or replace the fuse. If it trips again, it may be best to contact a qualified electrician to help identify the problem.

Check outside for visible damage to the overhead wires coming into your home. If you can see obvious causes such as a tree on the line or if you heard a loud bang please call us at (705) 431-4321.

As a general rule, the property owner’s responsibility begins where the wires connect to the building. 

• For overhead service, InnPower lines connect to the service stack, which is the demarcation point. The property owner is responsible from the top of the service stack to the building’s electrical panel.
• For underground service, the property owner is responsible for the meter base and the wires running from the meter base into the building’s electrical panel.

Public streetlights are owned by the Town of Innisfil and City of Barrie (with exceptions for some condominium corporations and mall parking lots). Please contact the proper town or city for this type of maintenance.
