Power Restoration
At InnPower, we treat every outage as an emergency and staff start working right away to ensure power is restored safely.
Power Restoration Procedure
A power outage can occur for many reasons including severe weather, equipment failure, animal interference and more. Some outages are only momentary while others are sustained and last much longer.
InnPower crews work around the clock to ensure power is restored safely and as soon as possible. Here’s what happens when you report an outage...
1 – Our crews are dispatched.
Once crews have been notified, they drive to the outage site using the same public roads as the rest of us do, meaning heavy traffic can slow them down!
2 – Assessing the damage
Crews then assess the damage and determine when it is safe to be repaired. In some cases, especially when dealing with underground infrastructure, it may take longer to determine the exact location of the problem.
3 – Making the repairs
Repairs can start once the cause is identified. Our crews do their best to provide accurate restoration times, although in some cases it is not possible to do so.
4 – Testing the repairs
Once the repair has been made, testing is put in place to ensure the system is stable before power is restored.
5 – Power is restored
Crews restore power to all affected customers!
Prioritization
During large outages and emergencies, affecting a wide range of customers, we prioritize our work into specific areas to ensure the restoration process is completed safely.
Essential Services

Power is first restored to hospitals, emergency services and essential businesses.
Substations or Major feeder lines
After restoring essential services, our crews prioritize repairing substations or major feeder lines that serve the largest number of customers.
Smaller areas
Power is then restored to smaller neighbourhoods, streets, individual homes and businesses.
Estimated Time of Restoration (ETOR)
Crews do their best to provide accurate, timely restoration times during an outage. ETOR’s are not always possible.
Some outages involve extensive damage and complex repairs particularly in areas where severe weather has hit, or high-voltage transmission lines are present. Every situation is different.
Other Factors to Consider
Some electrical equipment may belong to you and not the electrical utility!
What we own...
The wire from the pole to your house is owned by InnPower, along with the connection point where our equipment ends and yours begins.
InnPower also owns the electric meter in your home, which we will replace or repair as needed.
What you own...
Your ownership of electrical equipment begins where the wires attach to your house. If the equipment or cables coming from the connection point onto or into you home are damaged, you must have a Licensed Electrical Contractor repair the damage before we can restore your power.
Please note that repairs to standpipes need to be approved by the ESA. Visit Contractor Locator | Search by Location to hire an ESA approved electrician. Once repairs have been made, call us at 1-855-300-2990 to reconnect your power.
Once the power is restored safely, remember to:
- Check your circuit breakers.
- Reset clocks, timers and alarms.
- Restock your emergency kit.
As crews work to repair the grid safely, customers are asked to please stay away from downed power lines and crews doing roadside maintenance.
