InnPower reminds customers to protect electrical equipment from falling snow and ice.
With heavy snowfalls and changing temperatures occurring across Ontario – InnPower reminds customers of the importance of keeping snow and ice from covering or falling onto your hydro meters and other external electrical equipment.

By making sure your meter, outdoor outlets and wiring are clear of snow and ice, it ensures that both the meter and your appliances will function safely, while providing accessibility for InnPower to access the equipment in case of an emergency.
Your hydro meter is designed to withstand the winter weather conditions and keep you and your family safe. However, if your hydro meter or any other wiring or equipment is covered in snow or in an area prone to icicles falling, it could pose a serious risk!
Carefully remove icicles from overhangs to prevent them from falling on and damaging equipment and use a broom or brush to carefully remove the snow, and avoid scraping or kicking the meter or equipment, as this may cause unintended damage.
When clearing snow and ice from your roof or any electrical equipment, please follow these tips to ensure your safety...
- Do not shovel, plow or blow snow up against any electrical equipment.
- Watch out for and stay away from downed powerlines and low hanging wires.
- Take care when using a snow blower and be sure not to bump the equipment or aim the snow towards it.
- Never kick or hit your hydrometer to break away built up snow or ice.
- Remove icicles from overhead eaves troughs to ensure they do not fall or drip on to your meter and other external equipment.
- If it becomes too complex of a job, call a professional.
