Planned Voltage Reduction Test -
July 23, 2026
The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) will be conducting a planned province-wide Voltage Reduction Test on Thursday, July 23, 2026. As Ontario's electricity system operator, the IESO conducts these routine tests approximately every 18 months to help verify emergency operating procedures and support the ongoing reliability of the provincial electricity grid.
What You Need to Know
Date: Thursday, July 23, 2026
Test Times (Eastern Time):
- 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. (approximately 3% voltage reduction)
- 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. (approximately 5% voltage reduction)
Expected Impact: Most customers will notice little or no difference.
Power outages are not expected as part of this planned test. You can continue using electricity as you normally would during the scheduled testing.
Customers with larger sensitive equipment are encouraged to monitor their facilities during the scheduled test periods and report any electrical issues after testing to InnPower Customer Service.
What You May Notice
During the scheduled testing period, some customers may experience:
- Slight dimming of lights
- Minor changes in the performance of some electrical equipment
- Temporary fluctuations in voltage
These changes are expected to be minimal, and voltages will remain within established industry standards.
Why Are These Tests Conducted?
Routine voltage reduction tests help:
- Verify emergency operating procedures
- Confirm equipment performs as expected
- Identify potential issues before an emergency occurs
- Support the reliability and resilience of Ontario's electricity system
