Multiple and almost concurrent power outages were reported on Thursday, Oct 04 2018. A number of customers in Cookstown, Stroud and Sandy Cove Drive were adversely impacted by the outage. The outages were caused by severe gusts of winds resulting in shorting of conductors and tree branches knocking down power cables and equipment.
Line crew teams were dispatched promptly to restore power at Cookstown and along Sandy Cove Drive as these outages were reported first. While the crews were busy restoring power at Cookstown and Sandy Cove, a third outage was reported from Stroud where a tree branch had contacted a single phase distribution line causing outages to a small section of Stroud.
Cookstown area damage was severe and one of the reclosers had ruptured as seen in photos below.
Customers in the Cookstown area were all restored around 12:30 pm and customers in Stroud restored by 2:30 pm
