An unplanned occurred on January 11, 2020 at approx. 5:00 pm between Alcona and Lefroy affecting over 1500 customers. Crews were dispatched immediately to patrol the distribution system and determine the cause.
Fault indicators help indicate the affected area. Since it was all underground plant, it took some time to find the cause and equipment affected.
The cause was high ground water caused by the heavy rainfall. An underground switching vault was found damaged due to high water levels (as seen below). Operations staff and crews worked to isolate the damaged equipment to start the restoration process.
Restoration was required to be completed in stages in order to avoid any further disruption or equipment damage. Additionally blown fusing had to be replaced during the restoration process.
Many customers were restored at 9:00 pm, additional customers restored at 10:00 pm and the the remaining ~150 customers were restored at 11:00 pm.
