Letter to our Customers

Dear Customers,

RE: Updates from your Local Hydro Distribution Company

We would like to take this opportunity to provide you with a number of updates regarding some changes that you will see in the coming months.

First – The construction of our new Hydro Offices and Works yard is well underway. As we plan for the future and the anticipated growth for Innisfil, South Barrie as well as Friday Harbour, our company’s customer base will more than double in the next 20 years. Following a review of various alternatives and options, we’ve selected 7251 Yonge Street, a location within the Innisfil Town Administration Campus.

The site provides numerous advantages including proximity to the Town’s Roads Department as well as the opportunity to realize initial cost savings in the range of $1 million on shared infrastructure amenities; a central location with proximity to the fast growing town centre which will also support improved dispatch times; the proximity to other public services and greater convenience to the customers we service.

The new building will accommodate a 10 bay garage at one end and 5,500 sq’ of rental space on the other end that will initially be leased out until required. At the current time, options are under review as to the final uses of this rental space.

When Innisfil Hydro relocates to the new facility, our Corporate name will change to Innpower Corporation. A new logo will accompany the name. Changing the name to Innpower provides a contemporary name to a multi-municipal power company (servicing Innisfil and South Barrie). Making the change at the time of the transition to the new facility will keep our costs at a minimum as other changes to mailing address will be required at the same time.

Finally, let’s address the new Community Landmark (Sculpture) and provide some factual information to address this highly anticipated project. There will not be any increase to your electricity rates as a result of this community landmark. This is a non-depreciating asset and will not be included in any rate based application as it is different from other assets that factor into electricity distribution. This project was initiated as a direct result of the work and effort of our community through the voices heard during the Inspiring Innisfil 2020 community strategic plan. One of the major strategic initiatives identified the desire of this community to "grow and empower arts, culture & heritage substantially." A national search was conducted for a proposal that incorporated our culture and heritage. A piece by local area artist Ron Baird was chosen that represented the sun, the wind and water, the very elements that have shaped this community. We believe that this project will be a key landmark in our community and will help to reinforce the very qualities of life that make Innisfil the place to be.

On behalf of the employees of Innisfil Hydro, soon to be Innpower, we can assure you that we are committed to delivering effective and efficient services to you and we remain passionate about the communities that we serve.

Sincerely,

George Shaparew President & CEO Innisfil Hydro
