Innisfil Hydro Warns of Latest Scam

Electricity customers in several Ontario towns and cities have received calls from individuals claiming to be local power company employees.

Although Innisfil Hydro has not been made aware of any recent calls to Innisfil and south Barrie customers, the safety and well-being of our customers is paramount.

The latest scam involves phony employees calling customers demanding that they immediately pay their bills via an electronic funds transfer or with a credit card. In some instances, customers are being threatened with disconnection unless credit card information is provided.

If a customer receives a suspicious call from someone eluding to be an Innisfil Hydro employee, the customer is encouraged to ask for a name and then call Innisfil Hydro back to assure that the initial call was legitimate.

Customers receiving calls of a fraudulent nature are encouraged to report the call to the South Simcoe Police or Innisfil Hydro. This is how neighbours can help other neighbours avoid being scammed.

Innisfil Hydro reminds customers not to provide account numbers or any other personal information over the phone.
